Jamie Vardy has completed his 13 years at Leicester City. And now he is saying goodbye to the club. Know how an ordinary player changed the face of the club and why this farewell is considered the end of an era. Full details are given below.
Vardy’s beginning: Like a Cinderella story
When Jamie Vardy joined Leicester City from Fleetwood Town in 2012, no one had imagined that this boy would one day become the identity of the club. Vardy was 25 years old then, and he was playing in the Northern Premier League – that is, starting from the very grassroots level.
The very first season was special and then his graph kept on rising.
Memorable moments:
- 2014: Leicester won the Championship and made it to the Premier League.
- 2015-16: Vardy scored 24 goals and made Leicester the Premier League Champion! (This was the same year when the world heard ‘Leicester Miracle’ for the first time.)
- 2016-17: Reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
- 2020: Jamie Vardy got the Golden Boot (most goals in the Premier League).
- 2021: The club won the FA Cup and Community Shield – Vardy played a key role in both.
Then came the decline… and finally farewell
The club’s performance went downhill since 2022. The team was relegated in 2023, returned in 2024, and now again out of the Premier League in 2025. Vardy lifted the team up by scoring 18 goals in the Championship last season, but could score only 7 goals this season.
Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said,
“Jamie is not only a great player but also a great person. He will always be in the heart of this club.”
Vardy: Not just a name, but an emotion
Vardy was not just a striker. He was an emotion – a package of passion, loyalty and thrill.
He had neither the dazzle of Ronaldo nor the finesse of Messi, but anyone who watched him say – “This boy is unstoppable.”
Only two players have scored more goals than Vardy in the Premier League in the last decade – Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane. That says a lot in itself.
